Beet & Orange Citrus Salad

So I do not  did not like beets.   I didn't just kind of not like them... like I really really didn't like them. You know when you're swimming in a lake and you accidentally swallow lake water? Like right by some seaweed? That's what I thought they tasted like. Dead serious.   Then something magical happened... I went out to dinner to this restaurant I had been dying to go to (RPM Italian!), and I ordered beets...and I LOVED them. They were prepared to perfection. … [Read more...]

Summer Vegetable Potato Salad

Hi guys! Yikes! I feel likes its been forever since I last spilled my guts to cyberspace. I'm just about settled into my new apartment and have been having the time of my life playing around in the big bad city! My new job kicks butt - I spent the entire day yesterday in a photo shoot for these awesome DIY juices, and the entire last week helping recipe write and photograph the cutest little appetizers. And as if tasting, experimenting, and photographing food all day isn't enough, my … [Read more...]

Spicy Chicken with Summer Vegetable Salad

So it might have been 50 and rainy today; the Memorial Day gods may have been laughing at us as we ducked in and out of the patio trying to grill our bbq chicken, but I feel like summer guys! I just got home from one of those genius self serve frozen yogurt joints where they let you pick from an endless buffet of candy, chocolate,  and all things sugar, and I feel like it could be sunny and 80's. Or like I may be suffering from a mild sugar coma. Summer doesn't start when the pool opens, it … [Read more...]

Spring Goat Cheese Vegetable Dip

I love vegetable dips. Everything about them.   You can be at any kind of summer party surrounded by the most awkward collection of people - try your questionably twice removed uncle, ex-boyfriend's latest gf, that guy you 'forgot' to call back...3 months ago...take your pick kids.   But put that same group around a big bowl of dip - and voila! BFF's. All the sudden everyone has something delicious in common and a fabulous conversation starter (aka what an amazing cook this … [Read more...]

Loaded Vegan Nachos

So today's post started out as a Mojito recipe...(a really good mojito recipe!)   Buttttt... 4 test recipes and a half of bottle of Bacardi (no judging) later and all I was craving was a big, heaping, plate of nachos. Should have seen that one coming..   Normally a frozen pizza would do the trick, but thanks to a marathon of Mexican recipes on the Food Network and Pinterest exploding with Cinco de Mayo -  it was nachos or bust. And these are SO good guys! SO yummy. And … [Read more...]

Creamy Vegan Pasta Primavera

Hi guys! It's 7am. I stink like self tanner. There are more clothes on my bedroom floor than hangers in my closet. And my internet search history looks like I am either an LA restaurant critic or seriously stalk LA restaurant critics.   There's only one thing this can mean... I leave for vacation next Monday!! I am so excited! I'm taking a girls trip with my mom to visit a couple friends in California before I make the big move to my new apartment and job in May. It's been … [Read more...]

Sauteed Ratatouille with Quinoa

Happy Tuesday everyone! Today is an extra special post about a couple extraordinary bloggers and a very important cause. Today we are joining together to help raise awareness for Heart Disease. Kim of Cravings of a Lunatic lost her Mom to heart disease when her mother was 47, and Kim was 15. Each year on the day her Mom passed she shares stories and photos of her Mom. This year she joined forces with Jen of Juanita's Cocina, whose life was also touched by heart disease when her Stepfather had … [Read more...]

Double Berry Banana Smoothie

Hi guys! I'm writing you today from my new pretend home away from home! Long story short I'm apartment/dog sitting for a friend in Chicago and getting a fabulous taste of life outside the burbs. I'm making the big move this summer, but for the next few days I get to play around like a real city girl - strolling down Michigan Ave. (or sprinting - weighted down with 20lbs of thermal gear to fight the cold), drinks with the girls, and toting around my adorable new best friend - … [Read more...]

Chicken Fried Rice

It is snowy and cold in the best ever way possible today.   I'm tucked inside with nothing to do; no way to drive on the roads, huddled in last night's pjs surrounded by cookbooks. I'm wrapping up a website this week so I've been graciously working from home, far from my snow boots and North Face. I really thought I hit my max on snow this year but the whole not having to commute thing is giving me a new zen in the blizzard. Only don't push it blizzard. This is it. The big send … [Read more...]
