Hi Everyone!! I'm BACK! I'm back! I'm back…! I swear. I know I have been just about the worst boyfriend in the world. I never called. Didn't text. Taunted you with my yummy Lentil Farro Salad pics and then just took off. You can crazy ex-style Facebook stalk the bejeezus out of me and you won't find a trace of Whipped on the internet, in the fridge….I even forgot my password to log in to my own website!   So basically this is the point where I come crawling back begging you … [Read more...]

Creamy Chipotle Sweet Potato Soup

The weather God is becoming seriously egotistical. OK we get it! We fully understand that you can bury my poor little puppy under a mountain of snow in .02 seconds. And that you think its funny when I trip on a deceptively mushy pile of snow and butt dive on Michigan Ave (high point - old lady behind me thought it was hilarious). WE KNOW. I think we should maybe treat the situation like dealing with a toddler....like maybe if we ignore him (and you groundhog!), this little snowstorm tantrum … [Read more...]

Lemon Chicken Orzo Soup

PHEW. We survived the end of the world! According to my weather lady it actually ended twice. Three times? I can't remember. I was too busy drowning in my thermal pjs, XXXL sweatshirt that I could literally hibernate in, wool socks....fleece robe....occasionally I would peek out of one of the sleeves and beg a passerby for a cup of hot tea. Or the TV remote. Temps are back up to a balmy 30 degrees, but I'm not going to lie... -46 wind chill or 35 degrees I am a GIGANTIC weather wimp! If I was … [Read more...]

Leftover Turkey Tacos with Chipotle Cream

There's only about one thing in this world that can pry me away from a 50% off Bloomingdales sale on Black Friday. Or 70% off at Sur La Table... OR a 20-50% off sale at Macy's.....30% off Jcrew.... Target...Homegoods...!     Okkkkk feeling slightly less confident about this decision....   And it's my FAVORITE family tradition. Every Friday morning after Thanksgiving my dad, little brother, and I venture out into the cold rural Illinois wilderness (aka the adorable … [Read more...]

Fresh Herb Roasted Turkey Breast

8 days until Thanksgiving...! That means just 8 more days until Santa comes to Macy's, 93.9 Christmas Lite FM, and Starbuck's cute little Christmas cups... o wait. All of that has been up since October.. and I LOVE it. I'm sorry. Judge away. I'm one of those people that scours the radio looking for the first Christmas station. I watched Love Actually on Sunday. And there may or may not be a Christmas ornament sitting on my coffee table....   I'm of the more is better mindset and … [Read more...]

Roasted Butternut Squash Farro Salad with Cider Vinaigrette

Holy Moly. I have SO many Thanksgiving recipes I want to share this month I don't even know what to do! My desk/kitchen counter/living room floor....probably car floor...jeans pockets...coat pockets...anything with pockets....are stuffed and covered in random scratch pieces of paper with recipe ideas scribbled all over.     Literally this is how I organize my life.   Thank God Facebook keeps track of birthdays for me.     But long story short I was … [Read more...]

Make-Ahead Mini Muffin Pizzas – Back to School

pizzamuffin5

Can you all believe its already mid August?? I've been trying to live in denial that summer might actually end, but Famous Footwear and Old Navy will just not give it a rest. So. many. back to school commercials going on.   Which isn't entirely depressing... I love fall. Love boots, changing leaves, football tailgates... my birthday... :)   But most of all (totally not surprising), I love fall food. We start getting back into some comfort food - and there is nothing more … [Read more...]

Baked Chicken Fingers with Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce

chickenfingers10

I am SUCH a condiment girl.   Ketchup. Honey Mustard. Mayo... Miracle Whip (forget those commercials that make you pick sides). I dip french fries in honey. Eggs in salsa... eat mayonaise and tomato sandwiches....so its only natural that one of my favorite foods on earth are Chicken Fingers. The holy grail of dippers.   The only problem is that most chicken fingers you find at restaurants are battered, deep fried, and loaded with calories. With a 2 am Wendy's run as an … [Read more...]

30-minute BBQ Pork Sandwiches with Slaw

porksandwich10

I have been a cooking machine since I got home from Cali! I've gone on a serious cooking bender - fish tacos! BBQ pork! steak with red wine sauce (I don't even eat steak)! Would you also like a homemade chocolate chip cookie after dinner? Umm.... yes please.   It's my last few weeks with the family before I move into my new apartment downtown and I am letting my kitchen addiction get the absolute best of me. So I hope you all enjoy the next couple weeks of posts with real meals (like … [Read more...]

Turkey Sloppy Joes

brightersj

Ooooo I love sloppy joes! Everything about them.   They're the perfect sweet and tangy comfort food. They have that kind of 1950s nostalgia where there'd be a commercial with some elementary school kid spilling red sauce all over his newly pressed white tshrit and his mom just smiling and shaking her head...so much love for the sloppy joe!   Ok only I have to admit that my sloppy joe nostalgia doesn't usually jump to prepubescence, braces, and training bras; I go straight … [Read more...]

Happy Tuesday everyone! Today is an extra special post about a couple extraordinary bloggers and a very important cause. Today we are joining together to help raise awareness for Heart Disease. Valentine's Day may have been a week ago but thats no excuse to stop showing your heart a little extra lovin'! February is American Heart Month by the American Heart Association so its the perfect time to stop and take a second to really think about your ticker.
